WHY THE PURPOSEFUL TEEN PROGRAMME?

Reduction in stress, overwhelm, depression + anxiety. AND the ability to manage stress after the 4-week programme. (Amy was having a lot of trouble with her mind health, it was relief for her to find space in her mind).
Ability to focus for longer periods of time. The average amount a teen can focus without mindfulness training is about 1-2 minutes (in some cases 30 seconds). YET they're being constantly asked to focus, concentrate and listen. Who's teaching them how? We do! (Our student Amy quickly reported that she was less distracted by things, like instagram and negative self-talk, focusing became so much easier).
Increased connection and stronger relationships with others (this allowed our beautiful Amy to move out from the corner of the room, engage more and become an active member of the group after 2 weeks!).
According to the NZ Prime Minister’s Youth Mental Health Project, depression and anxiety are quite wide-spread: one in five young New Zealanders will be affected by depression by the age of 18; almost one in five meet the criteria for an anxiety disorder by age 19. (The Purposeful Teen Programme helped Amy with her anxiety, depression + suicidal thoughts, now she has the tools to thrive in life).

Harvard University conducted a study on 1000 students, following them from birth to 32 looking for what made someone successful. 

They discovered that:

  • It didn't matter what race or language they spoke. 
  • It wasn't the neighbourhood they grew up in or how much money they had.
  • It didn't matter how well they did on their college standardised tests or what their IQ was.

If a person can master self-control, that is learn to focus their attention + regulate emotions, they will become successful - whatever that looks like for them.

...trouble is our teenagers are not being taught how to regulate emotions and they're definitely not given any space to practice.
...If they not able to focus and concentrate they're often quickly written off as having 'issues'.
...Our teens are crying out for understanding and acceptance. They want to know why they're not feeling good enough.
...Now more than ever we need to teach our teens that they are enough as they are, that they have purpose and deserves to be here!

To me mindfulness means being aware of my actions and taking control of my behaviour.  I can regulate my emotions and make better choices. This programme helped me feel more relaxed and calm. I love doing mindfulness meditations because I can forget about everything around me, at least for a little while. I have learnt that in all situations I can always find a way to calm myself. A 4-WEEK MINDFULNESS BASED PROGRAMME

THAT TEACHES YOUR TEEN HOW TO THRIVE.

  • Pre-requiste (included in this programme) 3-day 1giantmind meditation course with Samantha Hannah
  • 4x weekly 2 hours sessions with Sam and/or one of her well trained SHWA teachers.
  • Non-religious, all inclusive, safe and sensitive learning environment.

LETS BREAK DOWN YOUR TEENS PURPOSEFUL WEEKLY PLAN

PLEASE NOTE: The teens will need to attend 3-day pre-programme meditation course before starting the programme. Samantha teaches the 1giantmind meditation technique we'll use throughout the programme. The 3rd day is included within this programme. Programme layout Two consecutive weekend days (2 hours each) 4x weekly workshops (2 hours each)

WEEK #1: Awareness

  • Understanding how breath can help us regulate our emotions and support us when facing challenging situations.

MODULE #3: Compassion

CULTIVATING LOVING KINDNESS

  • Learning skills how to cultivate more kindness and compassion to self and others.
  • Creating a gratitude practice
  • Journalling
  • Yoga + meditation

MODULE #4: Observing

BUILDING OBSERVATION SKILLS

  • Learning ways to notice our thoughts + emotions to decide which ones are helpful and which one aren't!
  • Understanding thoughts and emotions and how they drive our actions
  • Observing the inner conflict and choosing to live in value
  • Exploring what bring us joy and helps us feel supported

Samantha is highly trained + certified yoga and meditation teacher with over 20 years of personal practise.
Sam is also certified in Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), which is a unique and creative model for both therapy and coaching, based on the innovative use of mindfulness and values.
And trained in trauma sensitive mindfulness.

Before you ask, this programme is not therapy

...but we're really good at recognising when someone may need extra help. We have an excellent network of therapists and specialists re can refer your teen too if needed.
If your teen is seeing a therapist please ask your therapist if our programme is right for them.   We are also more than happy to work along side your teens therapist or counsellor if they have one.
Our programme is NOT a cure. It's a place of guidance where your teen will learn new skills for coping with life's challenges and growing inner strength.
